This is where you implement cross-cutting concerns like logging, metrics, guardrails, and input/output validation without cluttering your core agent logic. A common pitfall is adding too much latency in hook functions, especially in before-tool hooks, which compounds across multi-step agent runs. Read this after you are comfortable with the basic agent loop and custom tools, as hooks are most useful once you understand what you need to observe or control.
